Skyscraper

Danny Raymond

Advanced Snare Solo

Instrumentation:

• Marching snare drum

Skyscraper, by Danny Raymond, is a very difficult solo for marching snare drum that only experienced players will want to attempt. It’s fast at the beginning and even faster at the end. In addition to a healthy dose of stick tricks, you’ll be challenged with blazing singles, rolls, flam patterns, fast one-handed 16ths that require Moeller motion, and more. Luckily there is a “bolero-esque” section in the middle that will give the performer a chance to breathe. And breathe they must, for just ahead lies an extended section where they must play with matched, reverse-traditional, and even double-traditional grip!

This piece comes as a bound folio containing the sheet music, performance notes, a notation key, and even warm-up exercises specific to the piece!

This solo was extracted from Danny’s 9-solo compilation DVD “Let It Rip.” The DVD contains not only printable PDFs of the sheet music and performance videos of each, but also tips & tricks, warm-up exercises, interviews, and more. For more info, click here.
